Category: Comparisons
Compare shell capacity and carry style between a cowhide leather trap shooting waist bag and a leather shoulder holster with double mag pouch.
Quick answer
The cowhide leather trap shooting waist bag holds up to 50 shells, while the leather shoulder holster is designed for concealed carry and holds two magazines. Your choice depends on whether you need bulk ammo storage or discrete carry.
Capacity vs. Carry Style
The primary difference between these two options is capacity versus concealability. The waist bag is built for volume—it can hold a box of 50 12-gauge shells or smaller boxes of other gauges. The shoulder holster, on the other hand, is designed for a single firearm and two magazines, prioritizing low profile and quick access over raw shell count.
If you're at a trap range or shooting clays, the waist bag's bulk is a benefit. If you're carrying a concealed handgun and need spare ammunition without printing, the shoulder holster is the smarter choice.
Trade-offs at a glance
- Shell capacity: Waist bag: up to 50 shells. Shoulder holster: two magazines (typically 15-20 rounds each, depending on firearm).
- Carry position: Waist bag attaches to your belt at the hip. Shoulder holster distributes weight across your shoulders.
- Concealability: Shoulder holster hides under a jacket. Waist bag is visible but keeps shells at your side.
